Chainage holds information that matters to your business: where crews are working, plans, site photos and documents. Here's a short summary of how it's looked after. The full details are in our Security & Data Handling document (PDF) and the Privacy Policy.
Where your data lives
Your account, projects, photos, files and backups are stored in Sydney, Australia, with DigitalOcean. Card payments are handled by our payment provider, and we never see your full card number.
How it's protected
- Every connection is encrypted (HTTPS).
- Passwords are stored only as one-way hashes, never in plain text.
- Photos and files are kept in private storage, and every request is checked against your access, and a share link's settings, before anything is shown.
- Two-factor sign-in, which companies can make compulsory.
- Accounts lock after repeated wrong passwords, and we email you when your account signs in on a new device.
- Photos you add to points have their location data (EXIF and GPS) removed before upload.
Backups
Chainage is backed up every night. Backups are encrypted, kept in Sydney and tested automatically. Deleted data may stay in our backups for up to 12 months before it's gone for good.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data.
- We don't use your data to train AI, or to give anyone else insight into your work.
- When you're signed in, the places you look up aren't recorded in our usage statistics. The Privacy Policy explains exactly what is.
