Traffic volume (AADT) and heavy vehicles
What the Traffic (AADT) and Heavy vehicles figures on the chainage card mean, where they come from, and how to see the count site.
Transcript
Every chainage card on a Main Road shows how busy the road is. Traffic is the annual average daily traffic: the average number of vehicles a day over a whole year, from TMR's traffic census. The bar beside it shows how that compares, from a quiet road to a motorway. Heavy vehicles is the share of that traffic that's trucks, buses and other heavy vehicles.
Tap either value to see where it was measured. A marker drops on the census site, and the map flies there. Where there's no census data, the card says Unknown.
